An anecdote that was kindly sent by a viewer-

I was once at a boarding school called Ditcham and for a brief time John’s son was one of the pupils. I have no idea what his name was as we only ever referred to each other using surnames, he was just known to me as Gregson. I do remember one Saturday night when we had our weekly film show. We all sat down to watch a war film that John was in. At one stage in the film he showed a picture of his family to another soldier and a roar went up amongst us as it showed John’s actual family including our mate Gregson. I was only eight years old but the films we watched have remained firm favourites with me especially if they have John Gregson in them.
